Who owns the archive

Exporting the whole archive in open formats is free, always. If the service ever closes, you will have at least twelve months to download everything, and we will notify you by email.

Jointly the narrator and the family. Deleting a space requires the consent of all organizers. An organizer has a successor. Every action on the archive is logged and the log is available to the family.

Sources

Recordings, letters, diaries and their transcripts are edited by nobody, including the service. Re-recognition creates a new version; the old one stays. The family's corrections and notes are kept as a separate layer.

Generated content

Summaries, book chapters and retellings are composed by the service from what was recorded. They are always marked with a frame and a label, every paragraph cites its source lines, in the export they sit in a separate folder, and audio starts with a spoken mark and carries a tag in the file. A paragraph without a source is not published.

Consent to record

The person recording is responsible for recording the conversation. The service recognises consent and objections on the recording itself: after 'do not record' or 'turn it off' nothing is kept. Requests like 'do not show', 'not for the book', 'erase' become rules the family cannot undo. The narrator receives a printed sheet with these rights, even without an account.

Voice

A voice profile is made only with the narrator's explicit consent, by a phrase on a recording or in writing, and can be revoked at any time: the provider profile and all audio are deleted. For someone who has passed, only under a wish made in life or under the organizer's responsibility with a log entry; under a 'no' made in life, never. The voice is used only for retellings from this archive, cannot be downloaded and does not voice arbitrary text.

Visibility

What the narrator hid is seen by nobody, including the organizer. 'Organizers only' and 'not for the book' are honoured in summaries, chapters, retellings, the book and the export. A living relative can ask to hide lines about themselves.

Memorial mode

After a narrator passes, their wishes are frozen and changed by nobody; no plans are built, questions go to the living; reading, listening and export stay with the family indefinitely, without a plan.

Security

Files are encrypted at rest, as are provider keys and two-factor codes. Sign-in requires email confirmation; two-factor protection is mandatory for administrators. Each space is isolated: a foreign archive is invisible even by direct link.

Jurisdiction and voice

For spaces under Russian jurisdiction, voice features are off until a separate decision, because of restrictions on biometric processing. Recordings, the book, QR codes and text retellings work everywhere.

If the service closes

Export of the whole archive in open formats is free, always. On closing, families will have at least twelve months to download, and we will warn by email. An automatic monthly copy can be enabled in settings.

What the service never does

• — It does not converse on a person's behalf or answer for them. A retelling is a story on a topic, not a conversation partner.
• — It does not pass generated content off as recorded.
• — It does not add to retellings or chapters anything that is not in the archive: no background, no feelings, no 'probably'.
• — It does not pick the 'right' version of memories and does not verify facts.
• — It does not edit sources.
• — It publishes nothing outside: the archive is visible only to the family.
• — It does not give the voice away: the profile cannot be downloaded and arbitrary text cannot be voiced.
